Jack Meloy was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on 31 October 1933. He grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma, interested in wildlife and outdoor activities. While attending the University of Oklahoma as a biology undergraduate, Jack started photographing and filming his life outdoors and his family, beginning in 1956. This portfolio is a compilation of the tens of thousands of photos and numerous movies he filmed over his lifetime. Jack settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1959 to start his teaching career. During his summer breaks, he worked as a Naturalist for the US Forest Service in Cibola National Forest's Sandia Mountains through the 1970s. Jack taught visitors about the geology, flora, and fauna of the Cibola National Forest at Sandia Crest and Sandia Tramway Nature Talks and numerous guided hikes on the mountain. Additionally, he worked at the then Outdoor Education Center and volunteered at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park more recently.

Jack was recognized as an avid educator, volunteer, and outdoorsman.
